10 Fun and Exciting things to do in London Instead of Cleaning
Everyone wants to have a neat and orderly home. But when you find yourself looking forward to some free time – when your husband takes your kids out to the playground or elsewhere – in order to clean your home, you know it’s time to make some changes. It is easier to pick up toys, sweep, vacuum, and do thorough cleaning when the kids are not around, but you can also involve them in housework to give them a sense of responsibility.
A good way to keep your children motivated about helping out with housework is by treating them to a day of exciting outdoor activities. Here are some fun things for you and your kids to do in London instead of cleaning:
- Go to a park or playground:
There are very many parks and playgrounds in London, so you can choose any that is closest to you, and fits your budget. A good option is the Greenwich Park – one of the capitals eight Royal Parks located in South east London. It is a big and spacious space with a beautiful pond where you can enjoy boating rides. There is also a wonderful kid’s play area with multiple children structures, swings, see-saw, sand pit, and much more. The park offers a great view of the city, and you can enjoy a picnic or eat at the small cafe.
- Animal adventure
There are several wildlife places to visit in London, like the London zoo, the London Wetland Centre, and the Bird World. But perhaps the most exciting one is the Battersea Park Zoo. While there is an admission fee, there are plenty of animals, including monkeys, wallabies, snakes, and chipmunks, among others. Kids can help to feed the farm animals, spy on the animals, or go to the sand and water play areas for some fun.
- Visit a museum
Parents with toddlers can go to the London transport museum where kids can explore multiple life-size buses, train carriages, and tubes. An alternative is the Museum of Childhood, which offers various activities and events for children under five, and has a play area with a sandpit, place to dress up, and reading area.
- Visit the SEA LIFE London aquarium
There are also aquariums at the Horniman museum and the London Zoo, but this one should be more exciting. It is home to one of the largest collections of global marine life in Europe, right in London – on the popular South bank of River Thames.
- Do some sporting activities
There are certain places you can enrol your children for some fun sports activities, including gymnastics, games, movement, exercise, and swimming. Places to look at include Aquatots and The Little Gym.
- Visit some attractions
There are some attractions that are open for most of the year, like Gambado – a massive indoor play area with trampolines, a carousel, dodgems, and much more; Discover – a children’s story centre where children and their parents can enjoy making stories together; and the Legoland Theme Park in Berkshire – to the west of London.
- Attend some dance classes
You and your kids can visit places like “The Place” to watch dance performances or attend professional dance classes for a few hours. Other places where you can watch performances or enrol your kids for dance classes include the West London School of Dance, Diddi Dance – for kids less than 4 years, and Ballet Chelsea.
- Involve your kids in music and drama workshops
There are some places where you can drop off your children for fun-learning activities, such as music, dance, cookery, theatre, creative play, or film-making, while the grown-ups relax. You may want to look at Maggie & Rose club, as well as Perform.
- Go to a library
There are over 200 libraries in London, some of which offer computer clubs, reading clubs, and other fun events for children. You can check out what activities are offered in a library near you.
- Eat out in a child-friendly environment
There are many cafes and restaurants that offer fantastic children menus, activity packs, entertainment, and other facilities. Some restaurants to consider include the Rainforest Cafe and Bella Italia.
If your children have been asking for some new clothes, shoes, toys, books, or games, you could also have fun shopping around London, as you take a break from the household cleaning routine.
