Being green in everyday life is becoming more and more important, and rightly so.
The cleaning industry should be no exception and professional cleaners have a responsibility to be green where possible. So how can this be achieved? Follow these green cleaning tips:
Using eco friendly cleaning products.
There are lots of eco friendly cleaning products on the market such as ecover. These products cover every cleaning scenario from cleaning your floor to bathroom.
Steam is greenER!
The obvious advantage of steam cleaning is that there is no need to use any chemicals at all. Steam cleaners range in price from £50 to £500 depending on the brand you buy and the functionality.
Steam cleaners come in a range of shapes and sizes – but generally resemble vacuum cleaners, coming in cylinder, upright or handheld varieties.
When buying a steam cleaner look out for the following things:
- Size of the tank
- Length of the cord
- Pressure of the steam
- Accessories provided
Brands and prices
Karcher, Vax, Morphy Richards and Polti are among the big brand names who produce steam cleaners – with stores including Argos, John Lewis and Tesco all stocking steam cleaners in their household departments.
Reusing sponges and cloths.
Most good quality sponges and cloths can be machine washed several times before they need to be disposed of. It might be worth spending a little extra on cleaning cloths in the first instance so that they can be washed. Some products from discount stores don’t always last that long.
Don’t (or limit) use of all purposes wipes that can only be used once
These are the wipes you buy in packs of ten from brands like Mr Muscle etc. Most if not all of the wipes you buy can only be used once before they need to be thrown away. While they are convenient and easy to use they are more harmful to the environment than say using a cloth that can be reused again and again.
Reuse your spray bottles.
By doing a little bit of research online you can find over the shelf chemical alternatives to cleaning products you would normally buy in the supermarket. A good place to start looking is channel 4’s cleaning tips. Once you make your own cleaning chemicals you can refill the cleaning spray bottles. Make sure you clearly label each bottle so you know what room they should be used in.
Ask your professional cleaner to advise you on alternative green cleaning products.
Most cleaning companies will know what products are on the market and can point you in the right direction. We have helped lots of our customers find greener alternative cleaning products.
Regularly clean your oven so it doesn’t build up over time.
This way you don’t need to use lots of chemicals to get your oven back to its original state. We have cleaned some ovens that have had years of build up and require lots of chemicals to remove the built up dirt and protein fats.
A great tip on how to keep your oven clean is to lay some tin foil down on the bottom. This keeps the oven bottom clean so you don’t need to clean and use chemicals as regularly or get professional cleaners to do the job.
